The photograph shows adult choir members standing behind the youth choir, posed outside the church building. The identification list accompanying the photograph names the following individuals: Adults: Mrs. Corlies; Estelle Shimoe [sic]; Buster Schimoe [sic]; Alan Sears; Janet Lazareth; Leman Burgess; Marion Lazareth Evans; Rev. & Mrs. Stevens. Photograph taken in the late 1920s in front of the Fisk Street School. The image shows Fisk Chapel stewardesses who received training and organized a Nursing Association that provided services to the broader Fair Haven community. Individuals identified in the accompanying note include: Fanny Scales (domestic worker for the Fair Haven mayor), Edna Brown, Mrs. Harris, Mrs. Corlies, Ella Bailey, Mrs. Roan, Louise Berry, Mrs. White, Matilda Holmes (head of Sunday school), Mrs. Fields Collier, Mrs. Booker (wife of school principal Horace Booker), Ruth McGuire, Mrs. Grant, Mrs. Smith Brown, and Anette Albert.

Photograph of the Fisk Chapel children’s choir known as the “Little Songbirds,” taken in Fair Haven, New Jersey, circa 1945. Fisk Chapel, also known as the African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Bethel Church, was originally located at 38 Fisk Street before being moved to 25 Cedar Avenue in 1975 to avoid demolition. Carolyn Lowe (born 1938) is identified in the photograph (marked in yellow in a reference copy). She later reflected on her participation in the choir during an oral history interview conducted by her husband, Alexander T. Lowe, in 2026. (See: Oral Histories)
