May Margaret Fine founded the school that bore her name and served as its headmistress from 1899 until her death in 1933.
May Margaret Fine began tutoring young women in the Purves house at 73 Stockton Street on the corner of Library Place. On October 2 1899 she opened the Princeton School for girls and boys at 42 Mercer Street on the corner of Alexander Street (above).
By 1907, enrollment had doubled and Miss Fine moved her school to 38 Stockton Street. Today that house has been redesigned and stands at the corner of Hunter and Westcott roads.
In 1918, the school moved into the former Princeton Inn on the corner of Bayard Lane and Nassau Street where it became known as Miss Fine's School. It remained there until the opening of Princeton Day School in 1965.
In 1930, Princeton Junior School moved into a new building it had built on Broadmead on land leased from Princeton University. The school was renamed Princeton Country Day School and remained at that location until the merger in 1965.
