There was your firs t look, your firs t coo, your firs t smile and your firs t word;
Then came your firs t sturdy step, lofty throw and your need to climb everywhere;
Before we knew it you were insisting on choosing your own clothes, and hairstyles, and
trying foods from around the world;
Now you speak of presidents, global politics, Latin, climbing mountains, and the variety
of styles in your CD collection;
You ponder which high school you will attend, what car you will drive, and which college
you will select;
You step aside to make room for those who might not otherwise have a chance, and see
the opportunity for improvement in yourself even when you have achieved success;
You are proud of the closeness of your friends and value each and every one for their
individual strengths;
You ponder the meaning of all th a t is ahead of you and where your place will be amongst
it all;
We look lovingly a t you and remember your firs t sure footing and realize th a t you will
always have your feet planted firmly on the ground;
You have made us endlessly proud with each and every step you take towards your
independence;
You are the fine young man we always dreamed you would be!
